When Should You Book Your Tampa Bay Fall Family Photos?

Eagle Park Family

It’s officially fall, which means pumpkin-flavored everything, holiday plans (and hopefully some cooler weather) are just around the corner, and that annual realization that it’s time to start thinking about family photos. How did we get here?!

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos, fall is a wonderful time to do it. But here in Tampa Bay, planning a fall session looks a little different than it does in places where the leaves change color and everyone pulls out their favorite sweaters.

Here’s a few things to keep in mind when thinking about booking your fall family photos here in the sunshine state!

Book Early for the Best Selection

Fall is one of the busiest seasons for family photographers, especially with families wanting updated portraits for holiday cards, gifts, and end-of-year memories.

If you have your heart set on a particular date, location, or mini-session offering, booking early gives you the best chance of finding a time that works for your family and still leave some flexibility for rain outs.

Remember: Fall in Florida Looks a Little Different

We may not get a spectacular display of orange and red leaves here in Tampa, but we have something pretty great of our own: warm golden light, beautiful parks, coastal backdrops, and a lot more opportunities for outdoor photos.

Instead of trying to recreate a chilly New England autumn, I love embracing what makes fall in Florida special. Think soft sunset light, natural greenery, breezy waterfront locations, and outfits that allow everyone to feel comfortable. You can absolutely get that cozy fall feeling without melting in a chunky sweater. Promise!

A Few Tips Before You Book

  • Think about your calendar. Consider school events, sports, travel, and other commitments before narrowing down a date.
  • Plan outfits ahead of time. Coordinating everyone’s clothing is much easier when you aren’t shopping the night before. Amazon has amazing listings that help you plan and purchase outfits that compliment each member of the fam.
  • Consider your kids’ schedules. A well-rested, fed kiddo is always a happier participant.
  • Don’t wait for the perfect age or stage. Your family is changing right now, and that’s exactly what makes these photos worth taking.
